CAPACITY CHECK · PRACTICAL GUIDE

Finite Capacity Calculator Guide

Estimate run and setup time against available production-line minutes, with limitations explained.

What this tool helps you examine

A quick load check compares the work you want to schedule with the time the line can actually provide in the relevant period.

Starter formula: Required minutes = planned units × run minutes per unit + setup minutes

Worked example

72 units at 4 minutes each plus one 40-minute setup require 328 minutes. Against 360 available minutes, the simple load is about 91.1%. Multiple products, sequence-dependent setups and downtime require a fuller schedule.

Limits to keep in view

These calculations are deliberately small and transparent. They do not include every product rule, location, calendar, lead-time distribution, lot-sizing policy, resource, service target or commercial constraint. Use the result as a learning prompt, then validate it with the relevant data and planning process.
